Sierra Frac Sand produces and supplies two different types of silica sand proppant: our Economical Frac sand (EF) and our northern “Sierra Gold” sand.
Sierra’s EF sand is mined in northern Texas and northern Louisiana. Sierra’s “EF” sand is an economical alternative to Brady sand. Hydraulic fracturing methods and techniques are improving creating the need for more and more sand. Results have shown that by using finer brown sands (API and ISO Qualified) such as 40/70 and 100 mesh wells are producing volumes of oil and gas equivalent to those wells using northern white sand and is more cost effective utilizing native sands when completing these wells. Currently raw EF sand is transported from northern Louisiana to our Tatum, TX facility where it is dried and processed by size. Primary products include 40/70 and 100 mesh. We also produce 16/30, 20/40 & 30/50 or 30/70.
The Sierra Gold sand is mined from the Jordan and Wonewoc sandstone formations in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
